The dataset brings together items collected at different times and by different collectors, reflecting both the development of museum documentation practices and the historical and cultural contexts of collecting activities. Each object is described using a diverse set of metadata, including the object’s name and type, date of manufacture or collection, materials and techniques, dimensions, condition, as well as information related to origin and use.
The structure and quality of the data are uneven, as records have been created across different periods and according to varying data entry practices. For hackathon participants, the dataset is provided as an Excel table. The dataset supports a wide range of potential applications, including geographical and temporal visualizations, analysis of collection trends, exploration of material and technique patterns, and linking the data with other cultural heritage datasets. It provides a strong starting point for both research-oriented and creative data-driven projects.

Example of the dataset

Estonian National Museum With approximately 10,000 objects, the Estonian National Museum’s Finno-Ugric collection offers a rich but unevenly structured cultural dataset that is well suited for projects focused on data cleaning, analysis, and visualization.
